Sydney Swans star forward Lance Franklin is set to undergo surgery over the Christmas break on a troublesome finger.
Triple M Footy has reported that Franklin has struggled with the injury since returning to training.
Franklin missed the finals last season after suffering from a severe case of depression, however has returned to the Swans looking to have a big 2016.
“(The injury) is bothering him with marking and tackling work that he’s been doing this pre-season,” said Matt Cameron, the club’s head physiotherapist and rehabilitation coordinator.
“There’s a little bone spur irritating the nerve and the tendon isn’t quite working properly.
“He’ll go in for an operation this week to tidy it up. We’ve timed it so he’ll be right by January.”
The Swans expect Franklin to return to pre-season training on January 4
