Kenya-born Sudanese refugee Aliir Aliir will take the next step of his eventful life journey on Sunday, when he makes his AFL debut for Sydney Swans against the Lions in Brisbane.

Aliir, 21, who arrived in Australia at the age of nine and was drafted at No.44 in 2013, will replace injured fullback Ted Richards.

"He has been putting together a great body of work in our reserves, he's played five or six weeks of quality football and deserves his opportunity," said Swans' coach John Longmire, who told the player at a team meeting this afternoon.
