Reserve-grade trio Sam Naismith, Toby Nankervis and Tom Derickx are all candidates to step up and replace injured ruckman Kurt Tippett when Sydney test their depth against Melbourne.

Tippett tore a hamstring tendon in his right knee during the Swans' 42-point AFL loss to Greater Western Sydney last weekend, ruling the 29-year-old out for up to six weeks and leaving coach John Longmire's side short against the Demons at the SCG on Sunday.

"We've got three ruckmen who have played senior football (before) and played reserve football for us this year, and there's no doubt those guys will play a big part going forward into the rest of the season," Longmire said on Wednesday.
