Sydney premiership-winning key defender Ted Richards is expected to announce his AFL retirement.

The Swans have called a media conference on Friday morning for 33-year-old Richards, who has played 261 AFL games since his debut for Essendon in 2002.

He played 33 games for the Bombers before moving after the 2005 season to Sydney and he has played in three grand finals for the Swans, winning the premiership in 2012.
